Brenda and I visited the valley this morning hoping to catch a view of the Spotted Crake from the viewing ramp and were not to be disappointed obtaining several good scope views as it fed along the back of the flooded area (too distant for the camera unfortunately!)

There were quite a few people present, including Mark Chidwick and Martyn Wilson who fortunately were contacted by someone who had just found a Wryneck along the footpath leading towards a nearby hide, so those gathered all quickly squeezed across the footpath and were rewarded with views of the bird hiding amongst the grass!

Brenda and I visted Grove Ferry after lunch in Canterbury. We were fortunate enough to get some birding in before the heavy showers arrived in the later afternoon. Swift (c400+), Sand Martin, House Martin, Swallow, Cuckoo, Marsh Harrier (2), Hobby (6), Reed, Sedge and Cetti's Warblers, Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs and a single Cattle Egret that has been frequenting the area in recent days.

A couple of shots of the two Glossy Ibis at Grove Ferry/Stodmarsh after which we made our way to see the Short-toed Treecreeper at Samphire Hoe Country Park, which despite managing to see eventually (and hear), escaped the camera lens!

Grove Ferry, Bockhill & Oare (Kent)

After being unable to get out last weekend due to work commitments, we were lucky to get a second chance at the Wilson's Phalarope at Grove Ferry. We also saw Hobby, Bearded Tit, Green Sandpiper before driving to Bockhill where we saw Lapland Buntings (6), Lesser Whitethroat (1), Whitethroat (1), Chiffchaff (25+) and Blackcap (1). We finished the day at Oare with the White-rumped Sandpiper and Yellow Wagtail (2).

Grove Ferry (Kent): We met Bob and Jeremy at Grove Ferry this morning and made our way round the reserve. The weather was quite dull and overcast, but we saw: Bullfinch (1 male, 2 females), Marsh Harrier (1), Bittern (1), Bearded Tit (heard), Sparrowhawk (1), Green Woodpecker (1), Water Pipit (1) and Little Egret (1).
